Local Call directed by Arthur Joffe, France,
2004, 102 min, 35mm, French w/ subtitles
Saw "Local Call" last night. Amazing
film. I thought the film was about how particular survivors
reacted to the Holocaust. The father of the main character put his
son through a Job experience to make him remember the Holocaust and his
identity as a Jew. While the daughter of the tailor wanted to forget
and move on—not dwell on her father's horrors. It was still
a disconcerting film as you keep wondering, when is he waking up and
realizing it's all a dream or
hallucination?—Mitchell J. Freedman, Poway, February 19, 2006
