As retold by
Bruce Lowitt
Saul had a pet dog that he loved for 15 years. When the dog died, a
heartbroken Saul approached his rabbi and said, "Could you maybe offer a
prayer for my dear departed dog?"
"No, we can't hold services for an animal in our synagogue. But there's
this new temple that just opened. Maybe they can hold services for an
animal."
"Thank you, rabbi," Saul says. "Do you think $10,000 is enough to
donate for the service?"
And the rabbi says, "So why didn't you tell me the dog was Orthodox?"
