Washington D.C. (Special) -- Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) applauds the
Swedish government for its apology for failing to do more to secure the
release of its diplomat Raoul Wallenberg from a Soviet prison between 1945
and 1947.
Lantos, one of many thousands of Jews rescued by Wallenberg during the
Holocaust, said Russian accounts of Wallenberg's death in 1947 fail to
account for many sightings of the diplomat since that time.
The congressman's comments came in response to the issuance of a report
Jan. 12 by the Swedish-Russian Working Group on Raoul Wallenberg. -- Donald
