1947-05-08—Esther Moorsteen, "For Your Entertainment," Southwest Jewish Press


June 26, 1947—"To Hold Open House," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weitzman will hold open house Sunday, June 29th, from 2 to 5 p.m. in their home, 3745 Ray Street, in honor of their daughter, Esther's graduation from Herbert Hoover High School. Esther was an honor student at that school, where she took part in many extra-curricular activities as well. She is active in music circles, playing violin with the Youth Symphony here. The Weitzmans cordially invite their many friends and relatives to attend the open house.

September 1949—"Esther Weitzman Given Signal Honor," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 15: Miss Esther Weitzman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Weitzman of Ray Street, who has been at the Brandeis Camp Institute for the past nine weeks, returned home Labor Day.  Miss Weitzman, who won a four-week scholarship to Brandeis from the local affilaited organizations, was notified of an additional five weeks scholarship which was awarded her from the National Organization. An outstanding pupil majoring in music, Miss Weitzman is a student at State College.

November 14, 1949—"Beth Jacob Cong. Elects New Officers," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 5: A new year has started at Beth Jacob Congregation when at the meeting held in October new officers were elected to serve and guide the Congregation for the coming year. Chosen to lead the group for the third year is Mr. Abraham Abramson, president. Assisting him are the following: vice-presidents, Sandor Goldberger and Morrie S. Kraus; recording secretary, Jerry Aronoff; financial secretary, Morris Penn; treasuerr, Simon Glaser, 1st Gabbai, Joseph Gelmand and 2nd Gabbi, I. Lebb. A twenty man Board of Directors was elected, the members of which are J. Aronoff, E. Also, S. Bassin, H. Barad, S. Briskman, I. Gordon, T. Garber, F. Sugarman, D. Hurwitz, S. Komins, P. Mollick, Dr. J. Lippitt, A. Olf, Dr. W. Ornstein, Dr. A.P. Nasatir, S. Weiss, L. Zwiebel, Wm. Schwartz and H.R. Weitzman. Congregation plans for the coming year are centered around the building of the new Synagogue and Center with ground breaking ceremonies to be held in the very near future. Regular monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month, and a cordial invitation is extended by Pres. Abramson to any newcomers in the community to attend any meeting and get acquainted with this modern Orthodox group.

February 10, 1950—"Pioneer Women (Negba) Club," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: We would like to thank our Haveros and friends who made our Arbor Day Festival a marked success. It was a most enjoyable evening, highlighted by songs in English, Yiddish and Hebrew appropriate to the occasion by Sonia Weitzman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weitzman. Other songs were by Norman Schaeffer and Rose Abrams.  Readings in Yiddish and English by Florence Barrack, Eleanore Gordon and Anna Shelley were also well received.  Currently we are now in the throes of planning for our Purim Festival to be held on March 19th at the Temple Center, 7:30 p.m.  Watch for this affair and come join us!

October 6, 1950—"Personals," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Esther Weitzman, talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weitzman, will complete her senior year at UCLA, majoring in music. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional musical sorority. Esther has been quite active in the community and will be missed by her Beth Jacob Sunday School pupils.

July 6, 1951—"Graduates With Honor," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Esther Weitzman, a duaghter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Weitzman, 3745 Ray St., was graduated with honors from U.C.L.A. with a Bachelor of ARts degree. In 1947 Esther received a $250 scholarship upon her graduating from Hoover High School. Her college career has been a series of scholarships, including a nine weeks' scholarship for the Brandeis Camp two years ago. Esther is now at the University doing post graduate work, after which she will teach music and conduct. She is an active member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the Alumni assn. and Hillel.

August 31, 1951—"Personals," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Esther Weitzman, who is taking post-graduate work at U.C.L.A. is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Weitzman, and all of her friends here.

February 8, 1952—"Personals," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Miss Esther Weitzman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Weitzman, has returned from UCLA in Los Angeles, where she received her B.A. degree as a music major. Miss Weitzman is affiliated with Sigma Alpha Iota National Music Society and she expects to teach here in the secondary schools.
