July 17, 1947—"Weitzen-Breitbard Betrothal Told," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Mr. and Mrs. Morris Breitbard of 3219 33rd Street are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Erlene Joyce, to Joseph Weitzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weitzen, Sr., of 4062 Hilldale Road. Joyce is a recent graduate of Herbert Hoover High School, while Joseph is attending San Diego State College, where he is a junior. He is taking a pre-medical course there. The couple will be married in San Diego some time next June.

April 1949—Bobbie Solomon, "Collegiates N' Intermejits," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 17: ... Staring enchanted (or perhaps simply in a state of coma) a nmber of musical devotees...high brows all...were spied at the Russ Auditorium Monday eve (March 21) listening to violinist Joseph Szigeti's performance. Among those "music lovers" we noticed yawning or leaning forward in anxious anticipation were Sylvia Winiki, Arlene Bloomer, Esther Mador n' Stanford Brust, Barney Rosenthal, Nancy Weitzen, Rosslyn Godwin, Estelle Addleson, Marilyn Schissell 'n Milton Katz, Larry Solomon, and as long as we're talking about the young, we must include the perennially young Rabbi Morton Cohn and his wife, Sally, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weitzen, Rabbi Monroe Levens and Mr. and Mrs. Morrie Krause (sic, Kraus), whom we spied chatting in the lobby during intermissions. The Concert was fine all agreed and especially liked were Szigetti's encores.

January 13, 1950—"Council of Jewish Women," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: A regular meeting of the San Diego Section, Council of Jewish Women, will be held on Monday, January 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the Temple Center, 3rd and Laurel. Mrs. Louis Steinman, President, will preside. The Board will be host at a membership luncheon on Monday, February 6, 12:00 at the Temple Beth Israel. Chairmen for the luncheon will be Mrs. David Doctor and Mrs. Harris Rubel. They will be assisted by Mesdames M. Pomerantz, H. Haimsohn, G. Solomon, D. Lowenthal and F. Weitzen. Members are invited to bring a guest to this free luncheon, the purpose of which is to acquaint new members with the work of the Council...

December 1, 1950—"Weitzen-Glickman Exchange Vows," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Saturday evening, November 25, Arlene Glickman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Glickman, became the wife of Fred Weitzen, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weitzen at a family wedding in the home of the bride's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Saul Chenkin. Rabbi Morton J. Cohn performed the ceremony. Given in marriage by her father, Arlene was gowned in an original rich cream satin dress with a yoke of net outlined with bead embroidery. The embroidery was repeated on the bodice and long sleeves. Her finger-tip net veiling was caught to a Juliet cap and she carried an orchid-topped white Bible with stephantis streamers. Serving her sister as maid of honor was Roberta Glickman. Roberta wore a dress of ice pink taffeta skirted in net, with matching mitts. Aqua carnations were in her cascade flower arrangement. Joseph Weitzen served his brother as best man. Members of the immediate families and the bridal party gathered at a dinner following the ceremony. A honeymoon for the newlyweds will be spent motoring northward.

March 2, 1951—"Dr. Slobin Called to Rest," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: Private funeral services were held Sunday, February 25, at Merkeley Austin Mortuary for Dr. Herman L. Slobin, beloved husband of Alice Slobin, who died February 22. Rabbi Morton J. Cohn officiated. Surviving Dr. Slobin in this city are his sisters, Estelle Weitzen and Ruth E. Levin. Prior to his Associate Professorship at San Diego state College, Dr. Slobin had been retired as Dean of the School of Education at the University of New Hampshire.

June 13, 1952—"Personals," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weitzen had as their guest last week their granddaughter, Miss Judith Lynn Weitzen, aged 3. Estelle and Fred visited Miss Judith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weitzen (Joyce Breitbard) in Calexico over the Decoration Day weekend and brought the honored guest back with them. The Ed Breitbards and Grandpa Morris Breitbard also visited with the young Weitzens....The young crowd will be glad to hear that Nancy Weitzen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weitzen, is flying home from Worcester, Mass., and is expected in San Diego, June 18th...
