Starting today (Tuesday, Feb. 1), and every Tuesday and Thursday this year, Las Vegas  Mayor Oscar B. Goodman is taking a brisk walk through his city’s downtown.  The Nevada city is celebrating its 100th birthday and as part of the year-long centennial celebration, Goodman invited the public to learn more about the city and its history and to get in shape by joining him in “Centennial Walks.”

“Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in this country,” said Goodman “and I have taken an active role in encouraging the public to get in shape.  These Centennial Walks are a perfect way to learn more about the city’s history and exercise at the same time.”

Goodman has been promoting healthy lifestyles since he started his own personal fitness program and the city’s Leisure Service Department has supported that effort by participating in the Hearts N’Parks program of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.   Gail Umeham
