As retold by
Bruce Lowitt
Jacob and his parents, Boris and Nina Petrovich, arrivals in New York
just hours ago from their shtetl in Russia, are overwhelmed by the city,
particularly the tall buildings.
While Nina sits on a park bench, father and son enter a skyscraper and are
confronted by something they'd never seen in the old country - two large silver
doors that open and close periodically.
"What is this, father?" Jacob asks.
"I have no idea. Let's watch for a bit."
Then an elderly woman in a wheelchair rolls up to the doors and pushes a button.
The doors open and she goes in. The doors close.
Jacob and his father wait and watch.
Less than a minute later the doors open and out steps a stunning young woman.
"Jacob," Boris says. "Go get your mother."
