I learned tonight (1-18) about
your 1-13-06 story posted on
jewishsightseeing.com regarding the AJC, and just had a chance to read it.
Without commenting on the story as a whole, I just wanted to point out
two things. First, my university is called Alliant International University
(not Alliant University). Second, there has never been any question, as far as
I know, about whether or not the Latino-Jewish Coalition and the
dialogues that it has facilitated would continue. In fact, last
Wednesday (January 11, two days before the date of your story),
Howard Wayne and I had lunch with David Valladolid to plan our next
event, which will most likely be held in late February or early March. We
included you on the list of people whom we are planning to invite (and I do
hope you can come -- Howard or I will be calling you within the next week
or so to give you more information). All of us, together with Tad, Paula, and
the AJC Board as a whole, believe that the Latino-Jewish Coalition is
very important and see it as a core activity of the local AJC chapter,
one to which we are very committed. I look forward to your participation.
Regards, Bernardo
P.S. Do feel free to check on
facts with me regarding future stories, as appropriate.
Editor's reply: Thank you, Professor Ferdman, for your
reassurance that the Latino-Jewish Coalition will continue its important
work notwithstanding the planned closure of AJC's office facility while the
chapter considers restructuring its operations. The Latino-Jewish Dialogue is a
most important activity, for which you and its other leaders deserve the
highest praise. As a result of your letter, I have inserted
"International" into the original story so that in the future anyone
who refers to the story for research purposes will have accurate information.
At the same time I am linking that story to letters such as yours that
bear on the subject. Thank you for writing—Don Harrison
